Security of access to the supervisory authorities' servers

We recommend that you access this web site via HTTPS. For this purpose you have to install the current top certificate of the supervisory authority in your browser. HTTPS protects the connection between our server and your browser against interception or intervenience by third parties.

The supervisory authorities' directories can also be accessed via LDAP or LDAP/SSL (server: ldap.signatur.rtr.at, port 389 or 636, search base C=AT or C=DE). We recommend to use LDAP/SSL (port 636) in order to protect the connection to our server against intervenience by third parties.

You can ensure that you are actually connected with the supervisory authorities' servers by checking the certificates used with HTTPS or LDAP/SSL.

The security measures for the website you are currently reading include that the website is operated by servers dedicated only for that purpose, that the webserver and the LDAP server are protected by a separate firewall, and that the servers are housed in a special room.

The supervisory authority issues certificates for providers of certification services. The security of these certificates adhere to the same security standards applied to providers of qualified certificates and secure electronic signatures.

On September 24, 2002 the services of the public key infrastructure were started and the current TOP certificate of the supervisory authority was generated. We generate CRLs regularly.
